Divergence

Academic Team Project -

Game Design (Systems/Combat)

Description:

My Contributions:

Divergence is a high octane action game where the player uses their high mobility and ability to travel through time to fight giant futuristic-greek mechs. The game pushes the player to be clever and creative in order to take down the giant mechs. The combat focuses on the player using their high speed to duck from cover to cover and getting damage in wherever they can. However, the cover is destructible so the player has to be careful not to get caught without it.

As the designer on this game I spent most of my time on one of my biggest passions—combat and enemy design. I have and continue to work hard to design interesting and fun combat systems. That allow for diverse and engaging combat encounters for the player.

Game Developer (Systems/Tech)

Description:

My Contributions:

Pave the Way is a multi-level randomized puzzle game. The player has to use their options of roads in order to build pathways for each road to reach its destination. However, they have no stoplights and can only use the roads and speed limits. Creating an exciting gameplayer to figure out how each road can reach its destination without crashing into another car.

As the designer of this game, I was tasked with the interesting problem of creating a game that engaged players through fantasy and expression. To this end, I decided to create a game where the player gets to be a road planner. Laying down roads for cars to get to where they need to be and placing buildings and structures. What this game ended up becoming is a challenging randomized puzzle game—where the player has to protect a bunch of dangerous drivers from themselves while also creating a little town.

Game Developer (Systems/Tech)

Description:

My Contributions:

Slinging Swords is a fast-paced single player wave survival game built using Unity. The player uses an armada of flying swords in order to fight off ever increasing waves of enemies.

As the designer on this game I spent much of my time in my two main areas of passion. Systems and Tech design. I spent much of my time on this project iterating and improving my systems. And I was only able to do as much iteration as I did because I spent a long time building usable tools. These were my two greatest accomplishments in this project.

Bo's Big Adventure

Academic  Team Project -

Game Designer (UI/UX) and Producer

Description:

My Contributions:

Bo’s Big Adventure is a single-player puzzle platformer video game where the player uses the ability to toggle certain objects off or on to progress through a series of challenges and puzzles.

As a designer on this project my role was UI/UX development. However, due to a lack of UI requirements for this project, I did a lot of systems and level design work with my Systems Designer.

Refining the object toggle mechanic was the focus of our system design work.

Build A Hydra Workshop

Academic Solo Project -

Game Developer (System)

Description:

My Contributions:

Build a Hydra Workshop is card game where players gather hydra heads in order to assemble their hydras for battle.

As the Game Designer and creator, I worked on the games system, component design, and rule book. My main focus was trying to bring an “auto battler like” experience to a board game.

Game Developer (System)

Description:

My Contributions:

The Trolley Problem is a four-player strategy game where two teams of players fight for control over the trolley. When working on this game I was the Game Designer and creator working on the games system, level design, component design, and rule book.

My main focus was the iteration and testing of the combat system surrounding the central mechanic of the trolley. While testing I found that players were really engaged by the trolley, so I redesigned my combat system from the ground up, in order to better support the trolley as the core mechanic.
